A Group Exhibition Curated by Becky Beasley
VERTIGO BOOKSHOP & GALLERY 1998
Vertigo Bookshop in Camberwell was opened and run by Mehmet Oznur between 1996-2001, approximately. The small backroom was run as a gallery space by Becky Beasley for about 18months.
Mehmet was only really interseted in stocking books he wanted to read, so in many ways it was his library. He was studying a part-time MA in Psychoanalysis and the Image under Parveen Adams at the time. We met out of a mutual love of a piece of music that was playing on the radio in the shop the first time I went there.
Mehmet now runs his own publishing house based in Istanbul, Encore, which mainly deals with translating Psychoanalytic /Marxist Theoryand artist's monographs into Turkish.
Beasley provided the cover image for their first publication, Fragile Absolute (K?r?lgan Mutlak), by Slavoy Jijek »view publications
