Notes on the Relationship between Six Storeys and the Institute of N

Six Storeys is a Department of the Institute of N. As a subsection (SUB.6-22SS) of the archival space as an incomplete project, the exhibition of Six Storeys constitutes a development of the original manifesto of intent which exists as follows:

Institute of N, having come to light yet having been resolved in only the slightest way, is to be developed over time as follows:

a) as a home
b) as a place of work
c) as a container of things
d) as a vessel intended only to navigate itself
e) as a socio-literary experiment relating to mapping and the movement of things
f) as a journey into dark night

‘Institute of N’ is an act of sleeplessness, rooted in hope yet driven by fear.

Six Storeys attempts to present the horizontal space between the cityscape and the street. It is a low space, fictional only in as much as any object which moves around this space may be considered a character in the plot of the Everyday. It is not a theatrical space. Ultimately, it is a desperately romantic, thus ugly, thing which suffers terribly from the disappointment of loving too much. It is wounded. In as much as it lies in wait, anticipating something, it looks out wide-eyed, ever hopeful of change and the delights of the encounter.
